Imaging Solutions Demonstrate Epson's Collective Strength
Epson is implementing its new "3i" strategy to achieve its concept of Digital Image Innovation. In addition to the "i0" imaging support devices, which concentrates on core components such as semiconductors that provide value-added solutions for linking imaging products, management resources will be concentrated on what we call the 3i imaging fields.
i1: imaging on paper (developments in printers and other imaging products)
i2: imaging on screen (developments in projectors)
i3: imaging on glass (developments in mobile displays)
Epson will focus on the 3i imaging fields, and will unite the unique attributes of each of its finished product and electronic device businesses to show the company's collective strength. With 3i at the core, the scope of Epson's current business structure will be expanded, resulting in comprehensive solutions for still and moving images that will be expanded, resulting in comprehensive solutions for still and moving images that will open up new markets and business opportunities.
i0 Core Devices: High Value-added Device Solutions
Building on years of expertise, Epson will provide flexible, high-value added solutions for linking and combining imaging products. Close co-operation between its component and finished product businesses will result in core devices to support the Digital Image Innovation concept.
i1 Printers: Developments in Printers and Other Imaging Products
The scope of visual images has increased as a result of the increasing popularity of broadband communications and digital broadcasting. Epson aims to achieve new growth through on-demand and small-lot printing, focusing on both the home and office markets.
Through rapid improvements in on-demand printing systems, we will revolutionise the photography, copy, printing and publishing markets, providing customers with greater flexibility in terms of time and location, greater satisfaction and higher cost effectiveness.
Epson will create platforms that enable uniform connections for exchanging digital images, including the interfaces between Internet connection equipment and printers. Through such efforts, Epson will contribute to the availability of digital images and increased convenience for customers. The company will encourage the shift to colour formats and electronic formats for office documents, and will provide new ideas for improving business workflow and printing solutions.
i2 Projectors: Developments in Projectors
Amid the shift towards high-resolution digital broadcasting, Epson aims to create new demand for its projectors both in the office and in the home. In the medium and long term, Epson plans to create revolutionary on-screen imaging products that represent a convergence of cutting-edge technologies.
Office projector market: Epson plans to introduce products that incorporate world-leading technology for easier and more comfortable presentations. The company will propose new projector applications, including uses in mobile markets, in on-board units for cars and in game products.
Home projector market: Epson aims to create a home entertainment culture by which consumers can easily enjoy large, high-impact digital images at home.
New visual imaging equipment: Promoting a shift from paper output to display output, Epson will introduce products that will increase the diversity of ways in which consumers interact with images.
i3 Displays: Developments in Mobile Displays
The mobile display products that Epson has developed epitomize the company's strengths: energy-saving, ultra-fine technology, high-quality imaging and high reliability. Epson plans to develop these attributes even further. Additionally, by utilising the image processing technology gleaned from its imaging and information products, Epson plans to introduce display modules that are unique and easier to use. Through improvements in display quality and reliability and a decrease in costs, liquid crystal modules for projectors will boost the growing popularity of home theatre. Through the development of next-generation display technology and a greater concentration of business resources, Epson will aggressively develop new applications and new fields such as organic electroluminescent display (OLED) technologies to create the displays of the future.
