Custom Web Page Headers & Footers
When you print web pages, your printer is set to print the URL of the page in the header or footer by default. However, do you know you can remove the URL or even customise it to display useful information like date and time or even do basic formatting? This is especially useful for time sensitive printouts like stock prices or online security web-cameara images.
In this example, we are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, however all browsers should be able to do the simple tips shown below. Here is how.
From your browser's "File" menu, select "Page Setup."

The page setup menu will show you options of what you want to have appear in either the header or footer. On the left side, the browser's page setup menu allows you to change what you want to appear in the left side, centre and right side of the header. And on the left side of the page setup menu, the options for the left centre and right side of the footer are shown.
To show nothing in either the header or footer, just ensure that you select "-Empty-" for all drop down boxes. Or you can select whatever information you wish to have appear in the respective sections of your page header or footer.
Should you wish to, you can even select your own text to appear in the header or footers by choosing "Custom" in any of the drop down boxes that correspond to the respective sections of the page header or footer. In our example, we are altering the text to appear in the right side of the header (i.e. - the top right of the page)

To customise the text in the section of the header or footer selected, you can type in text you wish to have displayed. You can even have different page parameters printed by typing in codes using the ampersand sign (&) followed by characters.
Here are the codes you can enter to show the corresponding information:
| &w | Window title |
| &u | Page address (URL) |
| &d | Date in short format |
| &D | Date in long format |
| &t | Time |
| &T | Time in 24-hour format |
| &p | Current page number |
| &P | Total number of pages |
| && | An ampersand sign (&) |
| &b | Text immediately following these characters are centered |
| &b&b | The text immediately following the first "&b" will be centered, and the text following the second "&b" will be right-justified |
You can mix and match the codes with each other or typed text for a custom header or footer.

In this example, we have tailored our header to show the URL, the text "printed by" and date and time by typing "&u - printed by Andy Lee on &d at &t" in the custom box. (the text in bold will be printed as it appears)
The resulting header we will get is:
"http://www.epson.com - printed by Andy Lee on 10/10/2009 at 11:00:00 AM"
