EPSON DIGITAL ICE TECHNOLOGY

The coolest way to restore old film and slides damaged by dust and scratches

What is Epson Digital ICE Technology?

Epson Digital ICE Technology is an advanced, yet easy-to-use hardware-based film and photo defect removal feature that is found in Epson’s photo scanners.

Using a combination of hardware and software to detect and remove defects like dust and scratches, Epson Digital ICE Technology restores damaged photos to their original condition without affecting the image composition, and is more accurate than the conventional Dust Removal software feature found in other scanners.

How does Epson Digital ICE Technology work?

The damaged film or photo is first illuminated by a “cold” light lamp and the colour information of the image is captured.

The film or photo is then illuminated by an infrared lamp. As infrared light is invisible, it cannot reproduce the colour information of the scanned image, but can only detect defects like dust, hairs, fingerprints or scratches. The defect information is then delivered to the scanner software.

The two images (colour information and defects) are then compared and the defects are removed by advanced software algorithms. The result is a defect-free image.
